Our Story

Founded in 2010, Mirabel is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that produces artistically bold, mission-driven art & media projects.

Our award-winning films have been shown at festivals around the world; exhibited nationally in museums and galleries and broadcast on PBS, HBO, Netflix, BBC, Al Jazeera and the New York Times Op Docs among others.

Work includes Survivors, The Genius of Marian, The Genius of Caring, A Marriage to Remember, Sierra Leone Refugee All Stars and ScrapHouse. Our films address a diverse array of issues and we craft individualized engagement strategies for each project. From war and disease to the complex dimensions that surround aging and death, our work is unified by a compassionate humanism.

We have made deep a commitment to working with vulnerable communities; both those who are economically disadvantaged and whose stories are underrepresented. In 2010, we launched the WeOwnTV initiative, a collaborative media project that promotes self-expression and supports filmmakers and artists through media education, and mentorship. In 2016 we launched a fellowship program that provides direct grants to West African Filmmakers.
